Fruit and nut butter pinwheels are a fun and nutritious snack that kids will love. Simply spread your child's favorite nut butter (like almond or peanut butter) on a whole-grain tortilla, add slices of their favorite fruit like banana, apple, or strawberry, and roll it up. Cut into bite-sized pieces to make pinwheels for a snack that's packed with protein, healthy fats, and fiber. You can customize it further by adding dark chocolate chips, ground cinnamon, granola, etc.

These bite-sized snacks are perfect for a quick grab-and-go option that’s high in energy and fiber.

Apple nachos are a fun and healthy twist on traditional nachos. Slice apples into thin wedges and arrange them on a plate. Drizzle with nut butter, sprinkle with granola, and add a few dark chocolate chips or a sprinkle of coconut flakes. This snack is both sweet and crunchy, making it a hit with kids.

Benefits:
- High in fiber and vitamins
- Healthy twist on a popular snack
- Easy to customize with different toppings

4. Fruit Leather Roll-ups

Homemade fruit leather is a sweet and chewy snack made from pureed fruit. Simply blend your favorite fruits (mango, strawberry, peach, and kiwi are all delicious for this), spread the mixture on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat, and bake at a low temperature until it’s dried through the middle (roughly 3-4 hours). Cut into strips and roll with parchment paper into roll-ups for a fun and portable snack (will stick without the parchment paper). Depending on taste bud preferences, you can add honey for extra sweetness, and lemon juice, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. for extra flavor!

Benefits:
- Avoids added sugar or preservatives
- Rich in vitamins and antioxidants
- Great for a sweet tooth

5. Frozen Yogurt Popsicles

Make your own creamy popsicles by blending Greek yogurt with fresh fruit and a touch of honey. Pour the mixture into popsicle molds and freeze until solid. Don’t have popsicle molds? Add popsicle sticks to ice trays or small disposable cups and pour in the mixture so the sticks remain standing upright. They’ll turn out smaller, but equally delicious! These popsicles are a refreshing and healthy treat for after school.

Benefits:
- High in protein and calcium
- Contains probiotics for gut health
- Perfect for a cool, refreshing snack

Tips for Snack Success

  1. Plan Ahead: Prepare snacks in advance to save time during busy school mornings or afternoons.
  2. Involve Your Kids: Let your children help choose and prepare their snacks to encourage healthy eating habits. Plus, it will get them more excited to eat the snacks when finished helping!
  3. Balance: Aim for a balance of protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates in each snack to keep your kids full and focused.
