The Gateway Region YMCA feels strongly that anyone who wants to be a part of the Y has the opportunity, regardless of their ability to pay.

Therefore, we offer financial assistance to individuals and families who need help affording YMCA memberships and programs. Eligibility for assistance and the amount of support given is determined on an individual basis.

Thank you for considering being a part of our Y family. Your membership and participation are important to us!

Financial Assistance FAQs

Financial assistance is available to those who can demonstrate financial need based on family income, employment status, healthcare issues, or other extenuating circumstances. Each application is reviewed individually, and all records are kept confidential.

To apply for financial assistance, submit a completed application, along with all required financial and dependent verification documents, to the YMCA Welcome Center. Applications are reviewed within 10 business days once all documentation is provided.

You will need to provide:

  • Your most recent federal tax return (or verification of non-filing status if applicable)
  • Documentation of household income (pay stubs, unemployment benefits, social security, etc.)
  • Verification of dependents (if not listed on your tax return)
  • Any additional documentation related to your financial situation (such as a denial letter for state child care assistance if applicable)

The amount of financial assistance is based on a sliding scale, determined by your household income and financial situation. You will be asked to pay a portion of the fees for membership or programs.

Yes, financial assistance is available for child care programs. However, if you qualify for state child care assistance in Illinois or Missouri, you will need to apply for that first. If denied, provide the denial letter when submitting your YMCA scholarship application.

Once all required documents are submitted, it takes up to 10 business days to process your application. High volume periods may require additional time, but you will be notified of your status as soon as possible.

Most financial assistance applications are required to be renewed annually. You will need to submit updated financial documents and meet renewal criteria, such as maintaining at least 8 visits per household per month.

Yes, all information related to financial assistance applications and awards is kept strictly confidential.
