WHY GIVE TO THE Y

Patrick and his 6-year-old son Patrick Jr. (PJ), joined our Miracle League Baseball team for the fall 2022 season. Patrick has always enjoyed sports and was looking for PJ to have a similar team experience.

When Patrick discovered the YMCA’s Adaptive Sports program for athletes with disabilities, he was excited that he and his son could bond over sports.

“It’s a place that he can call home and be the same as any other kid,” said Patrick. “Finding the Miracle League has been a miracle.”

PJ is growing in his ability to bat and run bases quickly, and has met many new friends on his team called the “Homer Hitters”, coached by his dad, Patrick. Without this league, PJ would not be able to play a game he loves so much.

WHY GIVE TO THE Y

“The LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program literally saved my life. As I am recovering from not only a stem cell transplant, and ongoing Multiple Myeloma, it is easy to fall into the “depression” zone.

Knowing that this program would force me to have somewhere and someone to be accountable to besides my doctors, gave me a new sense of belonging. It was, and still is, a great source of physical exercise AND mental help. The knowledge that Martha, Jen and this program provided made me comfortable to try new things. I saw my strength improve weekly and was even able to include my spouse, John.

This program, I’m sure, is a godsend to anyone lucky enough to join. The trainers are the best at patience and skill. This program through the Y was a game changer and I can’t say thank you enough.”
