WHY GIVE TO THE Y
Every week, one of Raymond’s grandmas would bring him to and from the underwater robotics club meetings. Every week, his grandma would wait outside for the club to finish. Then, Raymond saw a flyer for Family STEAM Nights at the Emerson YMCA.
In April, Raymond brought his grandma to Family STEAM Nights: Mapping (Geospatial Information Systems). When they arrived for the evening, Raymond enthusiastically shared that he wanted his grandma to see what he’d been doing all spring.
That evening, Raymond and his grandma built a model playground complete with walking paths, a pond, a large swimming pool, and restrooms (grandma’s suggestion). Raymond has found a new found love of all things STEAM.
This fall, he will be returning to STEAM programs at the Emerson Y and exploring robotics.
At the Y, STEAM programs strive to engage youth and families in design thinking through opportunities that allow them to explore, build and create together!
