Healthy Schools Healthy Communities empowers communities to build a healthier future for children and families across Missouri.

We bring together schools, community organizations, businesses, parents, and residents to identify and push for changes that increase access to healthy food and physical activity where our kids live, learn and play throughout communities in North St. Louis County.

Together we are making changes to schools and local environments that will have a lasting impact and reduce childhood obesity in our communities.

Riverview Gardens School District:
LeMasters Elementary, Moline Elementary, Lewis & Clark Elementary, Meadows Elementary, and Central Middle School.

Ferguson/Florissant School District:
Cool Valley Elementary, Griffith Elementary, Vogt Elementary, Central Elementary, and Bermuda Elementary.

 

Hip-Hop and Step classes are held once a week for 8 weeks at Griffith and Lewis & Clark Elementary provided by Dance Plus Inc of North County.

Kids in the Kitchen nutrition classes are held once a week for 6 weeks at Lewis & Clark Elementary and Moline Elementary provided by the UM Extension.

Green Thumbs Up Garden Camp a one-week summer camp for youth ages 6-13. Campers spend an active week in the Community Garden exploring, digging, planting, harvesting, and learning about composting. They will also learn how to care for our plants from seed to plate with hands-on learning and plant cultivation.

School Garden at Moline Elementary and Lewis & Clark Elementary in Riverview Gardens School District. We emphasize how to sustain a garden involving, teachers, parents, farmers, and Ag professional. Students will eat what they grow along with experiential learning and nutrition education.

Women Empowered to End Disparities in Obesity

Through free programs and events that support healthy eating, physical activity, and stress management behaviors the females in our program gain the knowledge and skills needed to make healthier choices for their families.

FITNESS CLASSES

The Y offers hundreds of free classes led by trained, responsive, and fun instructors. Try indoor cycling, BODYPUMP, yoga and pilates, water exercises, and more.
