A Cause For Good
For over 167 years, the Gateway Region YMCA has served our community, adapting to meet changing needs. Today the needs are urgent, as COVID-19 and unavailability of community services affect families, seniors and individuals regionally and globally.
Through our Cause For Good Fund, the Y is providing basic needs addressing gaps in service and supporting our neighbors at a time when they need it the most.
Donation & Tax Details - The Gateway Region YMCA is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our tax identification number is 43-0653616. Contributions to the Gateway Region YMCA are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
As schools and child care centers closed, we immediately transitioned many of our facilities to provide emergency care for children of essential personnel so that they can focus on keeping our communities healthy and safe.
During this time of stress, families can feel relief knowing that the Y is providing safe and engaging programming for their children.
Food distribution: This is a particularly vulnerable time for kids who rely on free or reduced-price meals during the school year. We are working with local schools, communities and the St. Louis Area Food Bank to help collect and distribute food to children and families in need.
Connecting with Seniors: YMCA staff have reached out to our senior members, making sure they have the resources they need. We are providing a moment of connection for this vulnerable population, combating the negative affects of social isolation.
Virtual Wellness Support: We are providing online wellness content to help people of all ages and abilities stay active from the safety of their homes. Staying active will be critical to emotional and physical health during a stressful time.
Community Resource: We will continue to answer the call from partners to serve as a resource for blood drives, volunteer support, and more.
YMCA staff are at the heart of all we do. Today, some of them are being called on to serve in new ways, while others have been temporarily laid off as our centers have had to close.
We continue to temporarily pay staff benefits to ensure health coverage for all. Maintaining and supporting our staff team is critical to the Y’s ability to serve our community when the virus passes.
We have also established the Gateway Region YMCA Employee Assistance Program so full-time staff who are temporarily laid off can apply for a grant to help cover basic living expenses.
Supporting our staff today will allow us to continue to adjust to meet current community needs and be ready to serve in the future when we’re able to reopen.
Bridging the Opportunity Gap
We believe every child deserves access to high quality, enriching life experiences. The Y provides opportunities for all youth to connect, belong and achieve.
The Y provides safe spaces and the opportunity to convene individuals from across our region for relationship-building, volunteer activities, the formation of community partnerships and working toward collective impact and equity for our region.
Cultivating Health Equity
We believe where you live should not dictate your quality and length of life. The Y provides supportive environments and community integrated health programs to address these disparities.
