The South County Family YMCA Squids Swim Team is a year-long team starting our season September 1 and finishing our season August 31. The YMCA Heartland Gateway swimming accommodates swimmers ages 5 to 21. We compete in swim meets throughout Missouri and parts of Illinois.
Unlike other club swim teams in St. Louis, we have tryouts all year and take on new swimmers all year. We also have a program that allows youth to be well-rounded - if they need to take a break for a different sport season (especially high school swimming) their swim fees are put on hold until they come back.
Since every swimmer swims all four strokes during every practice, swimmers need to be proficient in freestyle with rotary breathing, have good body position in backstroke, and know how to do both breaststroke and butterfly.
All members of the team must also be members of the YMCA.
Every swimmer pays a one-time $60 registration fee, not to exceed $150 per family.
Monthly pricing per age group:
- Ages 5-8: $55/month
- Ages 9-12: $80/month
- Ages 13-21: $80/month
*Please note that the first child is full price. Each additional child receives a 10% discount. The highest group fee will be full price.

School year practice schedule:
Tuesdays & Thursdays
• 8 & under: 5:30 - 6:45
• 9 - 12: 5:30 - 6:45
• 13 & older: 6:45 - 8:15
Fridays
• 9 & older: 5:30 - 7:00
June and July practice schedule:
Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays
• 5:30 - 7:00
