In time for Veterans Day, the Gateway Region YMCA will now be permanently offering new membership rates exclusive to active duty military, including guard and reservists, veterans and their families. Effective Friday, November 9, the new rates align with military pay grades and veteran status of the military community.

“It’s important for us as the YMCA to be a leader in providing necessary resources, especially to those who serve and have served our country,” said Andrew Stack, vice president of Membership at the Gateway Region YMCA. “We acknowledge and support that the community at large has an ethical responsibility to serve those that serve us, and our Operation Salute Program is a way for us to do that.”

Stack, who is an honorably discharged military veteran, says the Y recognizes how much the military and veteran communities go underserved compared to the population at large.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical area is home to the eleventh largest military and veteran population in the nation with over 25,000 active duty and reserve personnel, and approximately 120,000 veterans. As part of their long-term strategic plan, the Gateway Region YMCA will continue to look at ways to support active duty military and veterans through their three areas of focus: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The Y is uniquely positioned to serve the various needs of the military community, including offering programs that help connect children while a parent may be deployed, providing affordable access to wellness solutions that do not exist on a base or are more convenient, and proactively working closely with veteran outreach organizations.
